It does not matter if you’re a cat or a dog lover, the common denominator is compassion for animals. Spending time with the animals makes them feel wanted, which serves purpose. Since the majority of a dog’s day and night is alone laying in their cages/kennels, taking them for a walk is essential for their good health. It’s also great exercise for the dog walker.
Petting and talking to the animals makes them feel special and shows that someone cares about them. When a dog’s tail is wagging or a cat is purring it makes you feel good that they feel good.
The happy feeling you get when you find out that one of the animals that you took time with got adopted. Knowing that it will have a good home and be part of a family is the best benefit of volunteering.
